Fields of the Lost - American Cemetery - Cambridge

One of the unexpected places I saw on my last day in England was the American Cemetery and War Memorial near Cambridge. I had honestly never heard of this cemetery, but it's the resting place of over 3,000 Americans and a memorial to those missing in WWII. Pictured here is the field of crosses that stand over our American dead there.

Places like the one in this photo are truly sobering, but it's important to remember the cost of war. I feel this black and white print really captures the mood, the still quietness that is infused with the atmosphere of war-time cemeteries. I can't put that feeling into words, but I hope I've managed to convey it in this image.
