Avebury Village Today

I've been to the village of Avebury twice and I have to say both times it was lovely. Pictured here is just a portion of the standing stone circle at Avebury. Stonehenge may be more well known, but the circle at Avebury is both older and larger. As you can see in this photo, in the thousands of years since this stone-age circle was built, a village grew up in its midst. In fact, more than just in its midst, sadly some of the buildings in the village are made from stones that were broken up. Still, Avebury is an incredible place to visit, both a beautiful little English country village and an amazing stone circle in one stop. But it's the stone circle that's most vivid in my mind today. Imagine trying to heft the stones seen here into position without the tools we have today!
