Lanyon Quoit - Cornwall

This dramatic black and white photo is of Lanyon Quoit, a dolmen from prehistoric times in Cornwall. I've read that it was likely a chamber tomb of some sort, but no one knows for sure what it was. Still, there's something in the air of places like this that I can't describe, a charge that tells you these places were once very special to the people who erected these stone-age monuments.

This particular monument still exudes the power it once has even though it has been humbled. A storm in the 1800's knocked it down and locals re-erected it on the stumps of three of its four original legs. It's said that prior to this a man on horseback could stand underneath the top stone! And still, I hope this picture conveys the special vibe I felt from this relic from the past.
