Bright Future - San Juan del Sur

I can certainly think of worse ways to see out a passing year. This was my sunset on 2008, and considering the changes in my life the following year, I'm fond of thinking of this as a portent of things to come more than the passing of the old.

Beyond my own personal symbolism of course, I believe this is a striking image for all of us who nurse an inner beach bum. I adore the hues of yellow and orange streaking through the sky, the veritable flotilla of boats in the small bay, and of course the silhouettes along the beach.

My eyes are drawn to those silhouettes almost as much as the sunset. I love that they area ll anonymous potential vehicles for the viewer to embody, to imagine themselves on that beach standing in the damp sand. And they are all doing their own thing, some staring at the sunset, others moving towards the periphery. Very much a model of our lives.
