Amongst the sites I won't forget seeing in Pompeii was the Small Greek Theater pictured here. There was an eerie stillness standing here where people were entertained so long ago (in fact there have been moden stage and music production put on in these ruins). The stone of the seats and stairs were noticeably worn from the passing of people all those centuries ago. When I first edited this photo years ago, I chose a sepia treatment and it got a good deal of attention. Like everyone, my own tastes in photography change over time and I would later return and do a color edit, but the more I looked at it, the more convinced I was that only a monotone treatment was appropriate either sepia as shown here (a nod to the age and timelessness of this photo) or straight black and white. The only color in this photo is the blue of the sky which I feel distracted from the great architecture of the theater itself.
