I must have seen a dozen documentaries of the building pictured here. This is the famous Roman Pantheon. There was actually an earlier building built here to honor the Roman Gods, but this one has stood the test of time. The Pantheon was built in AD 126 and I've read that it's the oldest building still in use today (as a Catholic church).
I have to say that the Pantheon, which I visited many times in my two weeks in Italy more than delivered. It's an amazing building and it boggles the mind to stand outside it and realize how long it's stood here. This photo was from my first visit and remains my favorite. I would only see one sunny day at the Pantheon and, of course, my luck was that a film crew was set up in front that day. Still, there's something powerful about the moody skies and without the rain, we wouldn't have the great variety of umbrellas in the foreground of this photo. and even in the muted light, the Italian colors still shine through.
