Show Me The Way

Sometimes the inspiration for a photo comes when least expected. Our group visting the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha were seated on the floor listening to a little talk from our guide when I happened to glance behind me and loved the down low view of the Mosque interior.

This picture was actually taken almost on the floor with my fisheye lens. It exaggerates distances but really allows one to take in all the incredible details of the lighting and the structure of this incredible 18th century mosque. For all of the opulence of the Ottoman architecture, it's those beautiful almost celestial lights that stick with me in my mind's eye years after photographing the Alabaster Mosque.
