Luxor Temple
The scene pictured here was from my first evening visiting Luxor, the modern day site of ancient Thebes. Although we were told the ruins were less impressive than many of the temples in Egypt (boggles the mind doesn't it?), I thought the ruins looked amazing in the warm golden light of the late afternoon sun!
Even an armchair Egyptologist would recognize the familiar lines of a New Kingdom Temple in this photo. I've read that the temples in Luxor were dedicated to the Theban Triad of Amun, Mut, and Chons.
The temple at Luxor was once connected by an avenue of Ram's Headed Sphinxes to the temple complex at nearby Karnak. It's almost as if the colors in this photo are re-calling those golden years from the past. We were only in Luxor two nights, so I'm glad we took this walk the first evening. The golden light from this photo didn't repeat itself for me.
