Well Worn Roads - The Sphinx & Giza

It's hard to visit places like the pyramids and enigmatic Sphinx without imagining the people over the course of thousands of years who've stood and stared at these wonders. In particular, some of the earliest travel photographers documented these ancient places. And those photos in turn have fueled over a hundred years of travelers visiting Egypt and other ancient places.

In a way, standing there, staring at the pyramids, camera in hands, I felt like I was part of a huge feedback loop. And when editing this picture, I wanted to pay homage to those old photos, the first actual pictures of these incredible landmarks.

This panorama picture has been toned to look as if it is an actual sepia tone and includes a light texture. It includes from left to right, the pyramid of Menkaure, the Sphinx, and the pyramid of Khafre - the only one that retains even a portion of its limestone casing (at the top). I hope a print of this one helps you to recall a visit to the pyramids or perhaps fuels your own desire to visit the only surviving ancient wonder of the world.
