Sunset with Friends - Playa Hermosa

This picture is from an afternoon on the appropriately named Playa Hermosa (translated from Spanish - Beautiful Beach) near Liberia, Costa Rica.

As soon as we had arrived at the beach that afternoon, I saw this wild piece of driftwood on the beach. All afternoon, I stalked it. I wanted a photo of just the driftwood. I loved the amazing natural curves and the weathering. Alas, the entire afternoon, someone rested on it. Not the same people, but an un-ending chain of people.

And somewhere near sunset, I realized that was my photo, not the beautiful wood but the attraction it held, that it was a sort of magnet for people to come and sit and commune with one another. So, in the late afternoon sun, I too this photo with the sun silhouetting a group of friends enjoying the beach and their time together. Surely this is a perfect example of Costa Rica's Pura Vida, a full life.
