I had never given Boston a lot of thought. I have always been enamored with more far-away and by proxy exotic locations. My first chance to see Boston was entirely due to a business trip in 2007. Being able to make a long weekend out of it, I decided it was time to take in the sights in New England's unofficial capital.
I've since read that Boston is considered by some to be the most European city in America and I can definitely understand the comparison. Between the history and the ineffable vibe of Boston, there's much that reminds me of British and European cities I've visited. I had an incredible time on that late summer trip and a subsequent winter visit to Boston.
Boston is quite honestly the only northern US city I've visited, even in winter, and had no qualms imagining living there. I look forward to returning in the future to document more of Boston's beauty. In the interim, I hope these photos of Boston's skyline, harbor and street scenes convey a real sense of the city for you.
